In a yearlong challenge, do you think you have what it takes to swim 100 miles? Now is your chance to put yourself to the test and see how far you are able to swim during the year and possibly achieve the lofty goal of treading 100 miles, whether that be doggy paddle twice a week or freestyle every morning!
The 100 Mile Swim Challenge is a year-long challenge that can be done anytime during open lap swim time.
Start Date: January 1, 2022
YMCA Members – FREE
Non-Members – A one time $20 for the year
Age Group: Must be 16 years of age at the start of the program
**Please note: RY swim team members are NOT permitted to participate.**
length of pool = 25 yards
1 lap = 50 yards
1,760 yards = 1 mile
35 laps = 1 mile
2 miles a week equals 100 miles in about 50 weeks
3 miles a week equals 100 miles in about 33 weeks
1 mile a day, 5 days a week, equals 100 miles in 20 weeks
Distance will be tracked on a white board on the pool deck. Report each swim session distance to any lifeguard or Y staff on duty!
T-shirts will be awarded to those that complete the near half way point, AKA the Y-Loop (48.1 miles = the distance between all YMCA’s in the Berks County Association) and the full 100 miles. A prize will be given to the person to complete the 100 miles first and the person to have the most miles at the end of the year. Winners will be announced and contacted January 2, 2023!
