The American Red Cross Longfellow’s WHALE Tales lessons teach children about water safety in different environments, such as pools, waterparks, oceans, lakes and rivers. It teaches them about water hazards around the home and neighborhood and covers sun safety, boating safety and much more. The program features fun, animated videos; colorful posters; stickers; activity worksheets; illustrated, color fact sheets; and three types of completion certificates.
The course is taught through 11 topics, each topic is presented as a rhyme that will help students remember the water safety rule being taught, and concludes with one in-water session that is an introduction to swimming and swim lessons.
This course is available for any age but the suggested age range is K-6. Additionally, this course is to be taught to both children and parents together.
The course will be conducted in two sessions, both of which will be on Saturday afternoons on back to back weekends. Below, you will find the days and times for each session:
July 30th and August 6th: 3:00pm – 5:00pm
August 20th and 27th: 3:00pm – 5:00pm
September 10th and 17th: 3:00pm – 5:00pm
This course is being offered for no cost for 72 participants thanks to a grant from the Berks County Community Foundation. Space for the program will be limited to the first 72 registrants.
