Pickleball at the YMCA
Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in Berks County, and the Y is the place to play. We offer clinics, leagues, and designated open play hours.
Pickleball Programs Clinics & Leagues
Pickleball Clinics: Perfect for beginners learning the rules, scoring, and basic strokes, or for players ready to advance their strategy, positioning, and shot variety. Our certified racquet sports staff make every session fast-paced, fun, and welcoming.
Pickleball League: Take your game to the next level with organized match play. Seasonal leagues offer friendly competition, skill-based placement, and plenty of chances to meet new partners.

Swing by for a casual game and enjoy the social life. Use the reservation app of your branch to secure your time slot in advance. Just download, sign up, and select your spot!

Tennis Contracts

Policies & Make-Up Clinics and Lessons
Members, guests, and all racquet sports participants are required to check in at the front desk before going on the court. Payment for all clinics and lessons is due at the time of service. Members may charge to their account only if a credit card is on file. Clinic payment is due before participation begins.
For individual lessons, a 24-hour cancellation notice must be given in advance or the full lesson fee will be charged. If it is a 2- or 3-person lesson, the fee is split among attending participants.
All YMCA racquet sports clinics require a minimum of three students to run. If only two students attend, classes may be shortened in duration but will still run at the same rate. In the event of a single student, a 30-minute private lesson will be offered instead.
If inclement weather or an emergency causes a cancellation, all registered participants will be notified by email.
Make-Up Policies for Clinics and Lessons
Tennis students have from November 1 through the end of the Winter Season (mid-March) to use all lessons within their package.
Clinics do not roll over year to year. Remaining credits may be used at the end of the winter season as lessons (2 clinics = 1 lesson).
For private lessons, make-ups must be used by March of the Winter Season.
Credits will not be issued for missed lessons except in cases of injury or illness (YMCA Racquet Sports Director approval required).

Ryan Knarr
Director of Racquet Sports
USPTA | PTR | Etcheberry Certified | USTA Middle States President 25-26
Ryan Knarr is the Director of Racquet Sports at the Sinking Spring YMCA. A native of Robesonia, he has grown up at the Sinking Spring facility as a player, and now as the Director of Racquet Sports professionally for the last nine years. Knarr is certified to teach both tennis and pickleball. In 2017, he was named USPTA National U-30 Professional of the Year. Administratively, he is the President of the USTA Middle States Board, USTA National High School Tennis Committee, USPTA Middle States Board of Directors, and is President of the Berks County Tennis Association. As the Head Coach of Conrad Weiser, he was named the USPTA National High School Tennis Coach of the Year in 2021, leading the program to five perfect seasons, five division titles, four county championships, two district titles, and a PIAA State Doubles title. He has been named the Berks County High School Coach of the Year five times, USPTA Middle States (PA, Del, NJ, WV) coach of the year, USTA Middle States Coach of the Year in 2018, and USTA Eastern PA District Coach of the Year 2x. As a distinguished player, Knarr holds the rare distinction of having played Division 1, 2 and 3 college tennis. He has been ranked #1 in USTA Middle States a record 15x combined in Doubles and MixedDoubles having won 1 National Doubles title.He made his professional tennis debut in Kramsach, Austriain 2016. As a Tournament Director, he has won the USTA EPD TournamentDirector of the Year Award 4 times, while running the largest tennis event in PA; the 300-player, Conrad Weiser Hits for Hope Tournament each June for a different charitable organization.

Kaushik Das
Head Tennis Professional

Kaushik Das is the Head TennisProfessional at the Sinking Spring YMCA. A native of India, Das holds his PTR, USPTA, and Etcheberry Speed and Agility certifications. Das coaches many high school and high level junior players at the high-performance level. He works with sectionally ranked juniors to continue to develop their games at at the high school and collegiate levels. He was named the 2021 USTA Eastern PA District Tennis Professional of the Year by USTA. As a player, Das was a top ranked Junior player in India. He went to college at Kutztown University where he won multiple PSAC Championships for the Golden Bears in singles, doubles, and as a team. He is ranked #1 in USTA Middle States Doubles 4 years in a row and was a top 10 ranked singles player as well.

Dr. Keith Rodgers
Assistant Tennis Professional
German Hessen Tennis Federation Certified
Dr. Keith Rodgers is an Assistant Tennis Professional at the Sinking Spring YMCA. A coach with over 50 years of experience, including playing professional tennis in Europe in the 1970s, he has seen the game at the highest levels all over the world. Dr. Rodgers specializes in building the foundation of a player from the ground up utilizing technical mechanical training as well as strategical development. He specializes in player development for players ages 11 to 14 and High School level players. Having trained and been certified at the German Tennis Hessen Tennis Federation, he has a keen understanding for the game of tennis internationally, and how the game evolved. He also specializes in the psychology of a player, developing them as a complete player both mentally and emotionally.

Alexandra Pancu
Junior Tennis Professional
PTR Certified
Alexandra Pancu is an Assistant Tennis Professional at the Sinking Spring YMCA. Alex specializes in Junior Player Development, adult tennis, and cardio tennis programs. She is a PTR-certified tennis professional, becoming one of the youngest to ever pass the PTR Certification at 16. Growing up in the Conrad Weiser Tennis Association, Alex is one of the most accomplished high school tennis players in Berks County history. She is a 3x Berks County Champion, 3x Berks County player of the year, District Doubles Champion, and PIAA State Doubles Champion, winning the State doubles title in 2020. Alex is currently the #1 player at Albright College in Reading and has been named the 3x MAC Conference Player of the Year. Alex led Albright to its first-ever MAC championship in the spring of 2024 as one of the most accomplished players in program history. She has a strong work ethic and knows what it takes to get developing junior players to have fun and work hard to accomplish their goals.

Michelle Timothy
Assistant Tennis Professional
PTR Certified
Michelle Timothy is an assistant Tennis professional at the Sinking Spring YMCA. She specializes in youth player development at the 10U and Junior Development levels. A disciple of the Conrad Weiser Tennis Association program, Michelle is a District 3 Doubles Gold Medalist in 2022 as well as a PIAA State Doubles Finalist in addition to being a key player on many of Weiser’s County and District Championship teams. At the college level, she has played #2 for Albright College earning all-conference honorable mention and rookie of the year honors while helping Albright to its first conference title in program history. Michelle understands the importance of building a solid foundation for players and works to assist all players in becoming the players they wish to become.

Mandy Nelson

Pickleball League Coordinator
Mandy is a USTA 10U Certificated Tennis pro that works with players at the foundational levels of their game. She serves the YMCA as the coordinator for Pickleball Leagues, Entry Level play, and welcomes new players into the various YMCA pickleball offerings throughout the various levels of play offered at the Sinking Spring YMCA.
