Looking for a new fitness challenge for 2026?

Whether you’re looking for a low-key, low-impact exercise or craving friendly competition, now is the time to set big goals, stay active, and earn the bragging rights and maybe some prizes. Winners will be announced and contacted January 2, 2027!

T-shirts will be awarded to those who complete:

  • All 100 miles
  • 48.1 miles at the nearly half-way point, called the Y Loop, which represents the distance among all five branches in the YMCA of Reading & Berks County association.

Prizes will be awarded to:

  • First person to complete all 100 miles
  • Person with the most miles by the end of the year

How It Works

In the 100-Mile Swim Challenge, you’ll have the entire year of 2026 to swim at the Reading Y during open lap swim times. Each time you swim, report each swim session distance to any lifeguard or Y staff on duty at the pool deck so the Y can track your official distance. It’s how to make your miles count!

Start Date: January 1, 2026

Members: $35 (Register before 12/5 for the discounted rate)

Non-Members: Purchase a day pass for each swim day

Age Requirement: Must be at least 8 years-old at the start of the challenge

Making Your Goal Achievable

We want you to succeed! Every stroke counts whether you’re freestyling every day or doggy-paddling three times a week. Here’s a breakdown to help you set reasonable expectations for yourself:

  • Swim 25 yards = length of pool
  • 50 yards = 1 lap
  • 1 mile = 1,760 yards
  • 1 mile = 35 laps

Then you can set your pace based on these estimated guidelines:

  • 2 miles/week = 100 miles in about 50 weeks
  • 3 miles/week =100 miles in about 33 weeks
  • 1 mile/day for 5 days/week = 100 miles in 20 weeks
