YMCA of Reading and Berks County: School’s Out Childcare
The YMCA is the largest childcare provider in the United States, and for good reason! Since the 1980s, the YMCA of Reading and Berks County has proudly delivered high-quality, attentive childcare to families throughout our region.
About School’s Out Programming
Our School’s Out Half-Day and Full-Day Care programs offer a safe, fun, and enriching environment for children in kindergarten through sixth grade when school is closed for scheduled in-service days or early dismissals.
While you’re at work, your child will enjoy engaging, age-appropriate activities that make the most of their day and help them grow academically and socially.
What to Expect
Each School’s Out day includes:
Fun and educational games and activities
Sports and physical play
Hands-on STEAM learning
Nutritious and delicious snacks
A chance to build friendships and social skills
Note: Parents are required to provide a packed lunch for their child.
Registration Information
Advance registration is required by the Friday before care is needed.
Late registrations will not be accepted.
Families are welcome to register early for multiple School’s Out dates.
Refunds and credits are not issued for unused care once registered.
Minimum Enrollment Requirement:
The YMCA requires a minimum of 10 registrants to offer care on any School’s Out date. If the minimum is not met, families will be notified of cancellation at least 24 hours in advance.

To avoid being charged the registration fee twice, families registering for both AM and PM care must complete two separate transactions:

Enrollment is first-come, first-served.
All required forms from the Parent Handbook must be completed and submitted prior to your child’s first day.
Submit paperwork via email to Jonathan Johnson or mail it to the program location above.
Online registration is available. After registering online, you will receive an email with additional forms. These must be completed before your child can begin.
Note: Incomplete paperwork will delay your child’s start date.
