Masking Policy Update – Effective 5/14/21

In response to the CDC’s announcement on May 13, 2021 regarding mask wearing for full vaccinated people the YMCA of Reading & Berks County has made the following change to our policies for members, program participants, staff and guests effective immediately, May 14, 2021:Masks are no longer required for people who are fully vaccinated. It is REQUIRED that those who are not fully vaccinated, including children who are not yet eligible for the vaccine, wear masks in our branches and program centers at all times to protect the health of others. In general, people are considered fully vaccinated:

  • 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine

If you are not fully vaccinated, regardless of your age, you are NOT fully vaccinated. Keep taking all precautions until you are fully vaccinated.
The YMCA of Reading & Berks County staff will be required to submit proof of vaccination to our Human Resources Director to work without a mask.
The safety of our members, program participants, staff and guests remains our top priority. We will continue to encourage social distancing, apply rigorous cleaning practices and establish health and safety plans for many of our programs.
We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to healthy living. For more information on guidance for fully vaccinated people, mask wearing or to find a vaccine please visit the following website: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html.
